Duo formed by Yuki Kajiura and Yuuka Nanri. Until now its the most famous and long-lived FictionJunction Project.
The story begins when Kajiura and Nanri met in (Minami Aoyama Shujo Kagekidan, also called Nansho), a 4 girls band in which Yuuka participated. Yuki composed the music for some of their musicals. From this time two songs were born: (Seiya), an insert theme of the (Christmas Juliet ~Eve no Kiseki~) musical; and GET INTO THE SUN. Both songs were released together in a single along with their respective karaoke versions.
In 2003, under the name of FictionJunction featuring YUUKA, the first song appears, titled (Akatsuki no Kuruma), as a MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM SEED insert song, and its released along with its karaoke version in the Suit CD vol.4 MIGUEL x NICOL. Thanks to the high popularity achieved among the fans of GUNDAM, a single its released a year before, but this time under the name of FictionJunction YUUKA (due to the excessively long former name). The single reached #10 in Oricon weekly charts.
Although Akatsuki no Kuruma was the first song, the first single released was anime series MADLAX opening theme (Hitomi no Kakera). Later, the ending theme (also performed by the duo), titled inside your heart, was also released in a single. At the same time period, FJYUUKA also performed a number of songs (Eleonore, Cradle, Margaret, We Are One, shes gotta go, Madlax) which were included in the 2 Madlax soundtracks (both released in 2004), but in the credits she appears as Yuuka Nanri.
After a hiatus of exactly a year, FJYUUKA reappeared on stage again with a theme for the GUNDAM saga, but this time for GUNDAM SEED DESTINY with the song (Honoh no Tobira), which single hit #1 in the oricon daily charts, to fall up to #5 in the weekly charts. This is cited as the first seiyuu single that reaches the #1 in Oricon charts, although it was only on its release day. In November of the same year the first album of the duo is released, and its called Destination, which compiles all the previous songs released (except for Honoh no Tobira) plus new songs. Its worthwhile to say that in this album the song Seiya (previously reviewed on this article) was re-released with new arrangements and performed by a vocally more mature Yuuka.
In 2006, the fifth single is released, called Silly-Go-Round, .hack//ROOTS opening theme. On the same single the song angel gate, main theme of the homonymous play where Yuuka is one of the actors (and Yuki is in charge of the music). Other released songs in the same year are aikoi (included in Tsubasa Chronicle 4th OST) and (Kouya Ruten), Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto anime opening theme, becoming the sixth single of the duo.
The 2007 comes full of new projects, starting with the first FJYUUKA concert called FictionJunction YUUKA Premium Live 2007 in February 8th and 15th. In April, El Cazador de la Bruja anime series ending theme, titled romanesque, is released in the seventh and last single up to the present, along with the single exclusive track (Yakusoku). The second album called circus is released on July, compiling the songs published from Silly-Go-Round to romanesque, including this time the song Honoh no Tobira, plus new tracks. After this, both El Cazador de la Bruja OSTs 1 & 2 are released (also made by Yuki), which contain songs performed by Yuuka (el cazador and cazador del amor), but theyre not released as FictionJunction YUUKA.
After a new hiatus of a year and a bit more (the same year in which Kalafina was born), it was announced that the Tsubasa Chronicle OADs: Shunraiki ending theme would be performed by FJYUUKA and would be called (Kioku no Mori). This song wasnt released as a single and appeared along with cazador del amor (this time as FJYUUKA) in the FictionJunction project album Everlasting Songs.
In April, 29th of 2009 the first single of the new FictionJunction era sees the light, titled Parallel Hearts, and the b-side of it is an old Yuki song from Nansho times (in 1999) that she composed especially for Yuuka. The song is called (Hitomi no Chikara), and was rearranged for this occasion. According to some sources, the release of this song was Yukis wish, and she thought it would be a good idea to release it with another similar song like Parallel Hearts, since FJYUUKA style is different from this one (both music and lyrics are complex).
In July 12th, 2009, JVC announced that the Yuki Kajiura LIVE Vol. #4 Everlasting Songs Tour 2009 concert in Tokyo, will be released in 2 DVDs separately. The first DVD was released in October 21, 2009, titled FictionJunction YUUKA ~Yuki Kajiura LIVE vol.#4 PART I~, containing the first part of the live where FictionJunction YUUKA performed a big number of her songs with new arrangement. There must be methioned that Hikaru from Kalafina participated in the chorus for Yuuka’s performance along with Yuriko Kaida. The 2nd DVD was released in December 23, 2009, containing the second part of the event, where the 4 girls of FictionJunction (Wakana, Keiko, Kaori, Yuriko Kaida) performed. Its notable that the last song ” Angel Gate ” was included in both DVDs, because its originally an FJYUUKA song while in the concert it was performed by all the singers (Yuuka, Hikaru, Wakana, Keiko, Kaori, Yuriko Kaida)
The last time FictionJunction YUUKA performed live with Yuki Kajiura was during the Flying Dog 10th Anniversary LIVE – Dog Festival! where she performed Salva Nos, Akatsuki no Kuruma, and Nowhere.
After Y.Kajiura left Spacecraft in 2019, Yuuka Nanri stayed in SC along with Wakana Ootaki.
