Liner notes

The first thing I wrote for Mai-Hime was the academy’s theme, and also Himeboshi. As a matter of fact, that was a piece that I did in the middle of the first meeting with staff, and of course I was embarrassed to take out the sheet music right in front of them, so I went into the bathroom and secretly wrote it there…
The times when I speak personally to everyone who’s influencing my work are chances for me to receive various impressions more than anything else. There are unexpectedly a lot of times when the pieces that can float in my mind during such times turn into theme melodies for the work, and this was one of those times.

I was unexpectedly unfamiliar with music for a work that has a lot of brightly cute girls with energy, so when I discussed it this time I wasn’t very happy, and wondered if I’d be okay with it. But it was very enjoyable to make pieces with impressions of bright scenery, and it was more interesting than anything else, so I still have fun watching it every week even now. I just get bad feelings when my favorite characters suffer, because I want to secretly be able to help them…

I too am thinking about Mai-Hime’s development from now on, so I’m rushing into drawing up the menu for the second half’s music. As I think about each character, I’m creating music every day. Everyone who’s enjoying watching in the same way, I’m just hoping that you can enjoy the music along with the work.
