itsuka kimi ga hitomi ni tomosu ai no hikari ga toki wo koete horobi isogu sekai no yume wo tashika ni hitotsu kowasu darou |
Someday, the light of love that you set aflame in your eyes will transcend time and surely destroy one dream of this world that hurries to its ruin. |
tamerai wo nomihoshite kimi ga nozomu mono wa nani? konna yokubukai akogare no yukue ni hakanai ashita wa aru no? |
Swallow down your hesitation. What is it that you wish for? On the path of greeding as greedy as this, will there be a transient tomorrow? |
kodomo no koro yume ni miteta inishie no mahou no you ni yami sae kudaku chikara de hohoemu kimi ni aitai obieru kono te no naka ni wa taorareta hana no yuuki omoi dake ga tayoru subete hikari wo yobisamasu negai |
With power that can break the darkness, like ancient magic what I dreamed of when I was young, I want to meet you and your smile. In these frightened hands of mine, courage is made of handpicked flowers My feelings alone are all that I rely upon, a wish that will awaken the light. |
itsuka kimi mo dareka no tame ni tsuyoi chikara wo nozomu no darou ai ga mune wo toraeta yoru ni michi no kotoba ga umarete kuru |
Someday, you will also wish for great power For the sake of someone else, I suppose. In the night when love captured your heart, unknown words are born. |
mayowazu ni yukeru nara kokoro ga kudakete mo ii wa itsumo me no mae no kanashimi ni tachimukau tame no jumon ga hoshii |
If I can go on without losing my way, I don’t mind if my heart is broken to pieces. I want a spell that can let me fight against the sorrow that is always in front of my eyes. |

You are a memory that continues to dream. I am the sleepless tomorrow. I will move forward in order to attain the miracle of the two of us meeting. What I hold in these frightened hands of mine is a sword of handpicked flowers. My feelings alone are all that live, a wish that I brandish within my heart. |
torawareta taiyou no kagayaku fushigi no kuni no hon ga suki datta koro negai wa kitto kanau to oshieru otogibanashi wo shinjita (hikari to kage no naka) |
When I liked books about strange lands Illuminated by captive suns, I believed the fairy tales that Taught us that wishes would surely Come true. (Among light and shadow…) |
shizuka ni sakimidareteita inishie no mahou yasashiku sekai wo kaeru chikara ga sono te ni aru to sasayaku owaranai yume wo miyou kimi to yuku toki no naka de omoi dake ga ikiru subete inochi wo tsukuru no wa negai |
Gently, magic from ancient times bloomed wildly in silence. “The power to change the world Lies in those hands of yours”, it whispers. Let us have an unending dream. During this time I go through with you, my feelings alone are all that live. What will create life is this wish. |

muy buena la letra gracias! n_n
saludos desde peru! n_n
Whoa. Wasn’t expecting you to actually credit me there. It was just for fun, really.
But thanks XD
I credit everyone to avoid comments like “you didnt credit me even though i helped as well” (something that happened some time in the past).
and because of their contribution and effort of course XD
Is it supposed to be “kami sae” or “yami sae”? I can’t really hear it clearly in the episode ending, and my ordered CD with lyrics still hasn’t arrived.
Love this song
Love the Lyrics
Love Yuki Kajiura
And of course I do love Kalafina ~♥♥♥
I would never expect my name to be in this. xD
Yes I think I hear kami, as well (it’s more impressive, too- although i don’t know japanese, so perhaps this translation is the right, but that ‘i want to see you smiling with the power to destroy God’ from the fansubs is clinging so strong!)
Awesome work!!!! thanks =)
but wouldn’t it make as much sense when it’s yami? then you get “i want to see you smiling with the power to destroy the darkness”
I believe it is “Yami” mostly because darkness is in the theme/motif of the song. “Kami” would not make sense unless they are talking about Madoka’s wish. (literally, becoming God herself) It is highly inlikely, however, since Homura (who is the persona of the song, by the way) did not know Madoka was to become God until the ending.
It’s much more impressive and intense when they done the ‘quattro’. I don’t want to hurt others but I like more the ‘[quattro]’ than the single version of Magia.
IKR!! It’s more powerful and the added violin parts made it better!!
i saw the 2016 arena live version of this song and it was magical OAO i felt like being pulled into madoka’s world where things are turning into ruins, yet i can’t help but keep holding on to this life-creating wish. i’ve never really cared to check lyrics translation of this song until just recently ;;_;; i’ve missed out too much… (sorry if i got carried away, but that live was totally mindblowing XDDD)
Isn’t “Magia” italian and not latin?
Maybe it is, it doesnt really matter, its like debating if a word is ancient or modern greek. Italian are based on latin. Its exists is in many langauges aparently, see here https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/magia
It doesn’t really matter per se.
I was just pointing it out seeing some of their other songs do have italian titles so it was likely this one was it too.
Best song
Arguably Kalafina’s greatest song, certainly in my personal Top 3: if they will only be remembered for one song (God forbid) it will be this one. Includes perhaps my favorite guitar solo from Korenagi-san, with those opening notes ringing like a death-knell (‘it tolls for thee…’)–a great musician of which the rest of the world has no clue.
My favorite live of this song is on the ‘Blue Day’ 2015 BluRay–Chills!
One last thing: SPOILER ALERT if you’ve not seen the series or movies yet….
‘Magia’ is certainly a Character Song, and Homura is certainly the clear vehicle…but these lyrics could also reflect the thoughts and feelings of Madoka herself(this struck me after watching the 1st movie). There are two vocalists (Hikaru and Keiko) after all…a double character song?
